Cognitive Specializations for Collaboration: Cues of a Shared Goal and Coordination Elicit Equitable Sharing Decisions

Abstract

In two studies using an online collaborative fishing task, cues of a shared goal and coordination were manipulated across three conditions. Participants were then asked to make a sharing decision with the gained resources in a Dictator Game with a Taking Option (List, 2007). As predicted, participants willingly shared more when cues of a shared goal and coordination were present. Participants were also more likely to share equitably when a cue of a shared goal was present, and then most likely to share equitably when both cues of a shared goal and coordination were present.
